The Special Education Department of Maryville City Schools is committed to serving our school community with  quality services for its special education students.   We are pleased to offer this web site as a service to the parents, teachers, and schools charged with the rewarding challenge of providing services to disabled youth.  Within this site, you will find information on a wide variety of topics related to delivering quality services to special education students.  We hope you will find the site useful, informative, and inspiring.

About Us

Maryville City Schools offer a comprehensive system of service delivery for students with special needs. While pursuing the goal of educating students with their age equivalent peer group to the maximum extent appropriate, teachers, specialists, and parents cooperatively develop an individualized education plan for each student. Educational services are coordinated by 35 special education teachers, 25 of whom have earned a master’s degree or higher.

Special programs include pre-school instruction, comprehensive development classes, school-to-work programs, and academic instructional classes for all ages. Support services are provided by the school psychologists, speech and language therapists, and a special education counselor. Physical therapy, occupational therapy, vision, hearing, and health services are also furnished by licensed personnel.

Additional support is offered to families through the Family Resource Center and the Make a Difference project. To date, specialized services are provided to approximately 750 students from three years through 22 years of age.

  Maryville City Schools is well known for academic excellence.  The underlying reason for this high level of student achievement is the schools' focus on each student as a unique and individual learner.  This philosophy applies to all students including those who are eligible for special education services.  In Maryville, special education is not a place where struggling students go to class.  Special education is a set of services provided to support eligible students in the general curriculum.
