The Process

Each group will complete the following project components:
(see the Timeline for each due date)

1) 20 bibliography cards

(See "References" on guidelines for these cards.)

2) 100 note cards from at least 10 sources

Minimum of 3 cards per source
Heading card on top should list sources and the number of cards per source

3) Four meetings with your faculty advisor (before school, during break, or after school by
appointment)

All members must be present and on time with a typed copy of the work due that week to receive full credit. See Preliminary Plan for Exhibition form and Revised Exhibit Plan and Equipment Request form. (25 points per meeting for a total of 100 points possible)

4) One interview of an adult expert on your topic—must be recorded on videotape and used as a media component in your project

Your expert must be approved by Mr. White in advance. Interview questions will be screened by your advisor and should be submitted to your expert in advance. A summary outline of the interview must also be submitted. See Interview Requirements; Interview Questions form; and Interview Permission Slip (opens in new window).

5) Museum-quality brochure

Be creative and informational. Include information that may not be available in the rest of your exhibit. Make 25 copies of your brochure for the museum. Paper will be available from your teachers, and copies may be made at school free of charge.

6) OpenMind

Present major components of your topic in an interesting and creative way. (Minimum of 13 connections between 2 time periods. Use photos, sound bites, and detailed captions.)

7) Multimedia display

The final display must include a display board and at least 5 other media components for a minimum total of 6. (Your OpenMind presentation and interview will make up 2 of these elements.) At least one of your components must be interactive and involve your audience in some way. Some suggestions: Web Pages; surveys; flannel board presentations; models; maps; demonstrations; artifact displays; etc. The possibilities are limited only by your imagination. (See Project Design Notes and pictures from a previous Decades Museum.)

8) Accountability

You must make a formal presentation to a panel of judges and answer their questions in a 30-minute interview. You must also prepare a "Works Cited Folder" that will be included in your display. (Three different lists of sources in correct bibliographic format—"Brochure Sources"; "OpenMind Sources"; and "Display Information/Pictures Sources") See Umbrella Questions form.
